Darkglass e500 Amp

Looks like pretty cool! Multi-fx unit with amp in the same box for 1000$ seems like a good deal for such a universal tool. Plus I'm all for the decision to use a smartphone app for controls since apps can be updated & upgraded over time, so planned obsolescence isn't such a big factor here.
I'm really hoping there's a more comprehensive foot controller for this guy for the effects in the app, I'd hate to be fiddling with my phone to turn off a distortion mid song live! This of course, launches the day I decided to order an Alpha-Omega 900!
Did I miss it or is there a foot controller? I know it will work with any MIDI controller but something more intuitive would make sense here IMO. This is a weird one for me, I use a lot of pedals but I like having direct access to them. I don't think I'd enjoy being tied to an app and I've never found the concept of presets all that useful for bass.
There is a synergy with the Quad cortex multi fx unit. I guess they have the possibility to update the effects etc later and I guess they use the same algorithms for both units. I might have bought this instead of the quad cortex, which is a bit overkill for my usage.
Cool as long as there is a smart programmable foot-switch.

The Manual states: "7-pin DIN connector only with Darkglass MIDI Footswitch"

The manual seems to say that you can assign different controls to different MIDI operations.
If I understand correctly, use the app to create presets. Call up the presets with the MIDI controller. If you've assigned an operation to one of the footswitches you can control that as well, say chorus depth with a rocker footswitch.

In the pictures the amp's input power rating is marked as 125 W, yet the amp is supposed to output 500 W. Sounds like an impossible combination — or clever marketing?

This is a common misconception. The difference is that wall watts are steady-state, whereas output watts are maximum for musical transients. Because the transients happen and are gone so quickly, the average wattage over a few seconds is far lower.
The Darkglass Suite application on the phone is really nice. It's new tech and there are still some minor bugs but they do update it often and it's a powerful tool. I like it a lot.
Would be cool to see a pedal version for cheaper for those that don't need the amp.
Indeed! I'm really satisfied with my AO 900 and I wouldn't exchange it for a 500w, but a unit with no power amp, only the effects and stuff would be nice. I might say that they will do it at some point in the future!
By the way, the answers on the Instagram post says that:
1 - Won't be a e900 "at least this year"
2 - They're working on the MIDI foot switch.
Drives me crazy when things these days hit the market that aren't 100% ready.

If it doesn't work all the time, it doesn't "work" for a gig, IMHO.
How's that Tone Print working out for the guys that forked over hard earned cash for the early models of the TC's? Ampeg Micro VRs first models sometime went wonky with two of the cabs it was designed to be used with. PV Minimegas dumped in the bed after a few weeks/months in scary numbers.
Yeah; every large production run has lemons. This is accepted reality. However, putting design flaws on the market is a big "boo on you". It comes off like a money grab to me. Invest in your product, people! I know you want to recoup the R&D, certification, prototyping and engineering, software development (in this case) and tooling. I get it. But it ISN'T ok to use the early models like beta test units and your biggest fans like guinea pigs.
IDK. Innovation is a good thing. Moving forward is necessary and commendable. Good on DG for a cool thing, I guess; but would a bit longer in beta to be sure it's really, REALLY ready for prime time be so bad?

Is it useless amp that is in state of factory configuration (if reset is possible) or its last configuration and most of features cannot be used anymore. Android and PC support long gone and you don't even know what A-B-C-D-E pots do in each preset (no display).

Yeah I had the same concerns about app based stuff. But I think the industry will continue to go in that direction
