Darkglass Microtubes vs. Ampeg Venture V7

Hey guys, always been one of those "amp-less" bass players but I think I am ready to dive into it.

On my radar is the Ampeg V7 and the Darkglass Microtubes 500 v2. I see some pros and cons to both but I know how much it is up to personal taste. Still wanted to get any opinons from anyone who has played through either or even both!

One thing I am quite keen to figure out is headphones on, silent practice at home. I share a lot of walls with people so headphone practice is a must. I know both have headphone outs and aux in, but the big difference seems to be IRs. I dont think I would use an IR live, but I have practiced a lot with IRs at home, I find they make a more comfortable listening experience when practicing.

The only other thing is, I am a big fan of that ampeg SVT growl sound, and would be willing to set up some sort of post amp IR soloution through my laptop to make up for the lack of IR, if the microtubes is just totally unable to get something close to the SVT grit? If it can get that grit, or something close to, I dont know why I wouldn't pick the Darkglass over the Ampeg?

Would appreciate any feedback or input!

I don’t feel the nature of Darkglass distortion is like SVT…Darkglass drive seems to ring at a higher frequency, fuzzier.

Owning a V12, I feel the faux SVT is best when at its lower levels…it’s less convincing at higher gains.

Take a look at the Aguilar Tonehammer 500V2. That may be what you're looking for.
