Hi. Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but it sort of pertains to my situation. Have been using the AO in my band to add savagery to certain bits, but found the contrast a bit stark. Have now taken to using it as an “always on” drive, with Drive and Blend both set to 9o’clock. I find it quite warm and unobtrusive, but am now looking to acquire a second Darkglass (I just love their sounds) to give me an option for an occasional extra level of snarl. Would rather not get another AO variant, and was wondering what people recommended? Am playing StingRay5 aggressive fingerstyle and hoping to get a not-too-trebly, tight but mean tone.

I'd recommend looking into either a VMT or B3K v2 depending on your taste. I use a VMT into an AO and they combine really well, I imagine the B3K V2 would as well

Thanks, man. Have sort of had one eye on the B3K V2, as it won’t take up too much space and doesn’t need to be super versatile (using the AO for minor tone tweaking and the B3K I would simply be using to add drive/distortion).

Just wondering which of these you’d pick for a grindy, always on overdrive that sounds close to natural without the bass getting farty?

Have owned the alpha omega and now use the x. They are both pretty versatile but imo the A/o is more like a sledge hammer and the x is more like a surgical knife. They each work better in different situations. If you’re in a one guitar band or a band where the guitars are doing more clean or ambient style leads I’d recommend the A/O its fantastic for like post rock/post metal type bands. If you are playing with multiple guitars in a heavy rock or metal band the x works really well. Both are great. And I just feel like they both have specific uses where they shine over each other. With my current band it’s two guitars in drop B or drop A tuning and I prefer the x with that band. My previous band was one guitar and I prefered the A/o for that. The difference is all about how wide of a frequency response you want the dirt to have. With one guitar the A/o wider dirt frequencies fills in the lack of a second guitar player to some extent. But with two guitars I prefer how the x can be used to cut through the mix instead of trying to plow through two guitars.
