I don't know the whole situation, but I feel bad for him...dug a deep hole and he seems to really want to get out.

I'm not sure that's really what is happening. He wants the group closed so that he's dealing directly with those he is indebted to, without having to deal with people who have no direct involvement with the situation, but who have piled on with the criticism. It was deserved and it looks like he took it, but he seems to have decided that this is the way to put all those distractions aside and focus solely on those who are owed. The situation is too far gone to worry about appearances and who the victim is, and if he's too fragile to handle it all in the open - which he clearly is - then what choice does anyone have but to wait and see if he gets things done more privately?

You don't need to make a public "pronouncement" about that, unless you're trying to play victim.

So far as I can see, the dude is mentally ill, broke, and a compulsive liar. Simply chalk him up as a "do not do business with this guy" kind of guy and get on with your lives.

I'm sure he will fill all the back orders after closing his facebook page, it's just that one last obstacle keeping him from finishing all those basses.... or not.
Just FYI, not trying to troll.
Most of this is so that if someone that is considering doing business with him does a Google search, this kind of thing will be in the top hits. Most of the folks here that have been burned are already at Stage 5 of Loss and Grief.
I like to follow Darrin's work. He does excellent work when he actually does it. beautiful basses. I often offer words of encouragement to him on his page because I want to see him close out his backlog and the bassists get what they paid for.
the problem is if you look on that facebook page, literally every time he posts something there are people piling on and sometimes even threatening him... even when he makes posts showing actual tangible progress. So I can completely understand him not wanting to see that.
his mental illness screamed at me the first time I ever read the DHuff thread, before it even got to the **** hitting the fan.
If you look closely at progress shots, they're just recycled images or the same half finished basses with pictures from different angles. Whatever the explanation, I don't think he's done anything in the 3 or so years in which he's had that page open.
