Darts, anyone?

Next to foosball, it's a favourite bar activity of mine. I am not as good as some of the guys I always see, but I have my nights occasionally.

If you do get a board for the man-cave, I recommend some good padding around it to protect the wall (depending where you hang it). My brother bought one a while back and his wall has so many holes in it now.

Had a foosball table and dart board during college in my apt. Along with two 30 packs (at least) each weekend. It is a must have for a man cave. Plus, there is also pool! A game of billiards is always pleasant when sipping the sauce.

If you get the nice boards that have the wooden cabinet, I recommend finding the support beam to hang it on, they can actually be pretty heavy.

The second year I had a dart board ( a real one) I wanted to stab my stupid roommates with it ( I didn't know these guys). They taped pizza boxes all over my board, and throw the darts every where and manage to **** up all the wood on the board. They messed up the dry erase board on the inside of it, and then never even mentioned it to me or apologized.

I play now and again, takes a lot of practice to get any kind of grouping together for sure. All I'd advise is pick the right spot to mount the board out of harms way, away from anything you don't want holes in. Winmau make decent boards, I'd get something with a metal surround and either cabinet it, or mount a back board behind it to save your wall. As for darts, you'll have to weigh them up for the right pitch for yourself, some prefer heavier darts, some lighter.

And try not to let the game meander into British 70's style play if you can help it :)

That actually looks like a brick ton of %*#) fun! Anyone else down to play???

I've played in leagues since I was 15. I would skip the cabinet....... Unless you buy a VERY expensive one with slate chalkboards inside. Then, poor players will hit the slate when they throw. A better way to go.......... Ask your locak beer distributor to sell you a backboard. They are usually made with a tough material on the face and will protect a larger area than a cabinet will. No need to have cabinet doors. The scoreboards in cheap dart cabinets wear out quickly. Get a separate scoreboard and mount it away from the dart board!! Also, get a good mat with the throw lines built in. Lastly, buy a good lamp to put right over the board, aiming at the board. Good ligihting, centered over the board is a MUST.

It does take lots of practice. To be competitive, a player must be able to put at least 2 out of 3 darts in the cork or 2 of 3 in triples. Doubling out usally gets one chance :D Also, if someone has a British accent and you're playing in the US, beware :ninja:
