sounds more like good parenting to me. when kids are young they're stupid and need sheltering.
Agreed. Teaching proper online safety is probably more responsible than just forbidding it and therefor just avoiding teaching your kids that there are creeps out in the world. I was taught young, and I didn't even HAVE a computer until last year!
I love watching the videos of it on youtube, but there are too many spoofs on there now, watering it down and spoiling it. Nothing like seeing a paedo get whats coming to him!

kids get up when you're asleep and get online... and when you're at work... and when you go to the store... it helps a little, but won't stop them.
I have a fifteen year old daughter who is only allowed to go on-line when she asks, and My computer is in my bedroom, so she has very little chance of sneaking on. Young girls are impressionable and stupid, and most are insecure, which makes them easy targets for sick bastards.
we've just had to move to putting password locks on the computer. I suppose if that doesn't work, my bedroom is next.
Another good deterrent is the fact that anywhere you go online, my wife can find out about, she is a computer god, and the kid knows it. Luckily we have had no problems with her even wanting to go to my space or places like it. She agrees with us that it is quite stupid to put all this info about yourself out there for anyone to see.

I had to quit watching that show. I could feel my blood begin to boil when I would watch it. Those dirtbags taking advantage of children angers me more than about anything else.

Yeah, it's pretty sick. Last year here in NJ, the authorities were doing demos about this at some of the local schools. In one instance they created a fake profile of a 13 year old girl on different websites and such, and within minutes it started getting questionable emails and IM's. Freaking scary.
At that age, kids need to be both taught to stay away from that stuff, plus physically prevented to the best of a parent's ability. At that age despite what they may believe, kids are just waaay too naive to handle it all on their own.
