Double Bass Dave Holland commits heresy

Saw this on Facebook, not sure how recent it is but I know Dave has been playing some bass guitar again. I read he had a custom Tobias made, wonder if this P is his? Seen some miles on the road!

I was once at Mike Tobias' shop when Dave Holland came in with an acoustic or semi-hollow bass guitar that he wanted Mike to do some work on. I think that particular bass might have been made by Mike but I'm not sure.

My recollection from an interview with Bobby Vega many years ago is that he got one of Michael Tobias' first two acoustic basses, and Dave Holland got the other. (I think one was 34" scale and the other 35"...)

His 2021 album Another Land had quite a few tunes on electric bass. I was almost a little wary, but I liked the sound and approach he went for, a darker tone than I'd expected though it had a hint of clear highs that made me think modern active bass rather than P-bass.

The 3rd Holland brother Holland-Dozier-Holland don't talk about...
This was one of my early introductions to Dave on electric. Recorded in 1972. I still have the vinyl.

A few years earlier, the movie Bob, Carol, Ted and Alice had come out.

This P Bass groove is more like Bob, Carol, James and Dave.

I think there are moments where the sidemen are wondering why the tune needed to go on for more than 4 or 5 minutes.
