Listening to him never gets old!! Yeah, I know most of us know that but I still gotta say it. I remember buying the Steve Morse album Structural Damage when it came out on CD back in the day and playing the crap out of it. Dave how always wowed with all his chops and his crazy slap abilities but this fretless solo on the song Rally Cry is amazing IMO.....check it out and let me know what you think. I've set up the link to start playing from his solo....enjoy!!

Back in the early/mid 1980s Dave used to play in a local fusion band called Stretch. It was a trio with guitarist Glenn Alexander and Van Romaine on drums. They played often at a small club in New Brunswick, NJ and I mixed sound for them occasionally (at age 16 or so…. the bar didn’t seem to care).

I wasn’t a bass player yet back then but I still remember that he and Glenn were endorsing Bag End cabinets and Dave was playing some very early Spector basses. Aside from being blown away by his playing (the whole band’s playing, really), I was really impressed by his humility. He was a really nice, approachable guy. They all were.

I’ve enjoyed listening to the great stuff he’s done with Steve Morse over the years but I really, really loved being able to see him in such a small room at a time when I was so impressionable.

Dave La Rue is a quality bassist. He’s got chops for days.
