Davemonkey's Very First

you appear to have a toilet drawn on your headstock.:eyebrow:

HA! No, it's not a toilet, it's a chalice. I'm working on an inlay for that. As a matter of coincidence, however, I HAVE seen a bass made from a toilet...some outdoor music show in Tennessee if I remember correctly. :smug:

@ majestic; thanks for the heads-up on pre-treating the cedar so the glue will penetrate and adhere. I do wish the color would remain that vibrant, but I know it just won't be. :crying:

I'm glad that you're not putting a toilet on your bass. :D Are you going to do different materials for the different parts of the chalice?(eg mop and abalone)

A toilet bass? That's a bit strange. I guess it would be kind of helpful though. If the bassist had to go, they could.

Mikey, that's a crappy joke... HAHA! :D

No idea. I "should" have 5 inches left over from the fret board. Since the grain pattern is super beautiful (IMHO) I'm hoping to be able to use that. If that fails, I have all the cedar I could ever need to make endless veneers. (The rest of that is getting cut and dried starting Saturday. )

I don't really want to buy anything extra for this bass. It has to be bottom-dollar, make use of what I can. If I can make it turn out well with those restrictions, I'll let myself buy some more materials/equipment. (In other words, my wife has me whipped and won't let me splurge on the first project... ). :rollno:
