David Dickey.....know about him?

Listening to " Hideaway" by America.

The liner notes ( yes... Listening to an LP... BUT that's an entire other thread..rediscovered my turntable after 15 years)... Say David Dickey is the bassist.

Omg... He is great... Very under appreciated imho.

Subtle at times ... when required and over the top when he has the freedom to be...

Very well done...

IMHO...America overall is an under appreciated band ... Hideaway is close to the Beatles Sergeant Pepper or the Beach Boys Pet Sounds...

As good? Maybe not... But close... Very artistic... And worthy of a listen.

BTW..Beatles flame suit on...I know I'm going to get flak for this post...

I played in a band known as "Dewayne and the Beldettas" with David Dickey until I left them in 1966. The Beldettas was a five piece band booked out of Norman, Oklahoma. (David was from Alex, Oklahoma.) He later left the Beldettas and joined America. David played drums for us until we needed a bass player. He switched from drums to bass. David also played guitar but devoted his efforts to drums, bass, and vocals.

I loved the band America. Grew up listening to Ventura Highway and Horse with no name. Great songs and a great band. Everyone in that band could play. The live videos on Youtube really illustrate how talented they all were.
