Double Bass DB amp...

Might be a newbie alert but anyway...

So I come to the decision of finding a real DB amp.
I come "down" to three. But just know that if I could try them I wouldn't be posting here...

Euphonic Audio iAMP Doubler
*Acoustic Image Clarus+ amplifier (Clarus Plus)
*And lot's of people are telling me about Philly Joe bass amp?
But I can't find anythings on them online(might be spelling it wrong).

*Mean that this is what people and teacher recommended me...

I am open to other proposition...

I don't know (and didn't heard) of any good shop near or in Montreal that carry stuff for DB so if any of you know were to go I would really appreciate it.

So that and the speaker I know speaker will change the sound but I'm not sure should I be looking for a better speaker cab or head...

My set up is a 7/8 DB Full circle pick-up, Fishman Pro-EQ Platinum Bass Preamplifier.
I play almost as must with the bow as with finger.
I might sometime use an electric bass.

Usually I use the P.A. whenever I can and I have been really satisfied that way but sometime it's not an option.

So yeah I hope it's not too long and that I made it clear.
Budget 600-1000 (just don't go over 2000)

In my opinion, there are probably only two real double bass amps, both from Denmark: CAD audio DB-510 and ARCO B-510. The latter is twice more expensive than the former. You can use them without any preamp, because they have all the features needed: hi Z input, amp voiced for bass, phase reverse, mute etc...
All the others are so called ''acoustic'' amps, meaning they are great for all acoustic instruments except bass (AI, Markacoustic). This is a little subjective opinion of mine - many will disagree as they like AI for double bass.
Besides that, there are good sounding bass amps, primarily designed for electric bass but quite useful for DB, like GK, SWR, Markbass, Phil Jones etc... Most of the great DB players use them, for example Marc Johnson requires a GK, SWR or Thunderfunk amps when on the road...

I've played all three and all are good. I currently use the Phil Jones Super Flightcase 300 amp for most of my gigs. For soundclips of it in action, check out the "Nachbar" recordings on my site, all of which except "Love For Sale" were recorded with the PJB combo (Love for sale used the EA Doubler and a Wizzy 10" cab) with a small digital recorder right in front of the band.

Seriously mate I can speak for couple of amps, full circuit pickups sound fantastic through the Markbass 2+10" combo (very powerful amp) also the Markbass 121p great little unit and with an extension cabinet you get 500W volume as well as beautiful tone, if you ever need phantom power for your microphone and get sweet sound the new AI two ten combo (I am currently using with DPA 4099b) is so lovely, that you can't put your bass down, volume, gorgeous tone! I also recently had the opportunity to try a vintage Walter Woods with a 2x10 it was great but I wouldn't swap my AI for it, once had a Polytone with a 15" speaker ( story of the past ) AI and Markbass are pretty commercial, affordable and always great sounding arco or pizzicato, it is great to have versatile amp that not as heavy as a brick dunny ( outside toilets )

Does the PJB handle low well, I usually think of more high when the speaker is small... It's the only thing that scare's me of those amp. Have you try it with the bow any recording?

I can't offer personal experience with this combo but, on principle, multiple smaller drivers in a cab, when well designed, can produce thunderous low end. That should not scare you at all.

The cabinet on the amp is very deep, and has three long tube ports below the speakers. I don't claim to understand the physics involved, but the combo puts out a disturbing amount of low end, so much so that in most situations I leave it flat and use only a high pass filter for EQ.

No. Given the state of my arco playing, I wouldn't be doing the company any favors if I did. :)
