Double Bass DB Instuctors in the Atlanta area

I've been trying pretty hard to find a DB instructor in my area. I'm brand new to DB but I play the guitar/bass guitar and understand standard notation but read it fast enough to use it much yet (working on it).

I'm in Newnan---about 25 minutes south of the airport---but I can drive to Atlanta if I need to. I've found a few people who teach violin/viola/cello/upright bass lessons but I would sort of rather find someone who teaches and plays bass primarily. Since the french/german thing will change the bow I get (I'm thinking a Finale though) I would like to find an instructor who I can stay with past the basics.


Is there anybody you would recommend? I've been emailing schools/college bass instructors who aren't currently advertising lessons to ask for recommendations.

Thank you! I sent him an email. I haven't heard from anyone who primarily teaches bass in the past week+ of emailing anyone and I got an email reply from a guy from the Atlanta music project and your PM within two minutes of each other. Crazy.

When I mentioned that I thought I wanted to head more towards the orchestral side of things he said that while he understood/could play/had taught beginning arco he would probably refer me to someone else.

The guy's name is Link Removed for anyone else who might find this thread and be looking for DB Jazz or EB instruction. That gives me an option to fall back on at least...I'm sure I wouldn't surpass his arco knowledge in the first year or two.

Have you contacted the symphony?!!! There are some fantastic players in the section. I seem to recall there being a wave of great young orchestral players 10-15 years ago...
