Dead head.

I finally got a cab and plugged in the used peavey mark vi for the first time. To my disappointment nothing except hum came from the head. The seller on Reverb said it worked fine before they shipped it, so giving the benefit of a doubt do you think it might be a fuse or something simple? Im just extremely let down.

You can test the cab with a 9V battery touched across the tip and sleeve of your speaker cable. Mind you if you’re getting a hum out of the amp it should be OK. What sort of a cable do you have between the amp and the cabinet?

Amp can be tested simply by touching the end of the guitar cable plugged in to the amp. You should hear a loud hum when you touch it.

I dont have a different cab. But i tried different cables and tried the 9 volt trick. Nothing. There are no lights and the fan in the back dont run. I plugged my bass into my xbox 360 and played a few notes and the bass works.

I know this sounds stupid but I did it once.. My Hartke has two 8 ohm outputs for speakers and two effects loop plugs just near them .. I plugged the speaker cable into one of effects loop sockets by mistake and thought the amp was dead because I got no sound. .. I hope that's your problem.

I din't think there was supposed to be a space between the second d and the h ..........................
