Double Bass dead sounding G string?

as per my recent thread, i'm the new owner of large Shen Panormo bass. the instrument is really great and suits my needs well.

the only issue is, the G string sounds super dead and choked when playing pizz. it came with flexocore deluxe on it, which i assumed was just the character of that string played pizz. now it has a full set of spirocore mittels on it, and still the G string sounds terrible- far too choked and dead sounding to actually play. the spiros are brand new, maybe 5-6 hours of playing on them.

i've got spiro mittels on my laminate bass and i don't mind the G for pizz at all.

is this a setup issue, or is this a question of this string just doesn't jive with this bass? anyone have a similar issue? reccomendations for things to look for, or other G strings to try?

If bridge and nut slots are OK, and it is not only a note or note region, but the whole string, a repositioning of the sound post might help, since this changes the acoustical properties of the body the most with minimum work.
Spend a day with the luthier (or at least half a day) trying other positions and then play the bass after each. You might find a good position after some changes.

i was thinking that. i need some small things done to the bass anyway, so my luthier will see it sometime soon- once i have a few bucks to spend on it.

as far as i can tell, the post is in the "right" spot. might not be positioned perfectly? i'll have to get out the mirror and look..
