Dean 4 string with the single passive pickup

Hi All,

As my sig shows, I play moderately high end piezo basses.

However, I have been wanting a cheap 4 string bass that I can slap on and that has a P type of sound.

Played a used Dean 4 string with the single pickup today. Sounded and played quite decent. Nice and light.

Are there different models that are better than others?

I do not want a bridge pickup. Just the single sweet spot pickup.

I figured I could upgrade the bridge and put better strings on.

There have been MANY, MANY basses that Dean produced and then discontinued for whatever reason. Without knowing which model you played, it's hard to say how good of an instrument it is. Only you can because you played it and if it felt good, and sounded good, then it's good, right?

As of right now, seems the current line up has the Hillsboro Single or the Eric Bass Signature Series with a single "sweet-spot" pickup. Looking at the description of each of these, I'd say that the Sig Series bass will cost more since it had better hardware and a Swamp Ash Body.

Dean basses are usually pretty good. I have 2 of them, both bought brand new on discount because this particular model I don't think sold very well and it has been discontinued in '09. I happen to love how it feels, plays and sounds, so to ME, it's worth a lot. To another, it's probably a $400 piece of crap.
