So these caught my eye. As I'm assuming they're supposed to.

I'm seriously considering one as a mess around kind of bass, just to have something different. My experience with Dean guitars (a Mustaine and a Dimebag signature guitars) is good.

These are pretty inexpensive, and couple with some DR neon strings (perhaps of matching colour...) could be something fun. But not if they play like crap.
 
I compared one recently to a Fender standard P, Squier classic vibe P, and G&L LB100, all with same exact amp and same exact settings. To me the neck/fingerboard felt rough/sticky because of that plastic crud they put on it, but the pickup is in that "sweet spot", and tonewise it was an exact match with the Fender standard. To that end it may not be the "different" you're looking for if you already have a P-bass. I actually like the colors, if I was buying one I'd swap the neck out with an aftermarket maple neck and for a few $100 less I'd have a brand new P-bass equivalent.
