Dean Markley SR2000 7 String Set - for EADGBE Tuning

Ever since I got my Ibanez SR206 6 string bass I've been wanting to string it up as a guitar (EADGBE) as I'm very familiar with and play guitars with standard guitar tuning. I wanted super bright strings but finding a set that would allow me to easily do so was difficult. I thought I would have to go the route of mixing sets, buying extra single strings to find matches in the right gauge.

Then I came across this 7 string set of Dean Markley SR 2000's. Yes, I didn't use the low B, but the set only cost me $50 from "Strings By Mail" (out of Michigan). The set consists of the following gauges...

.127 (low B, not used).

E - .107
A - .087
D - .067
G - .047
B - .027
E - .022

After restringing my bass to EADGBE with these strings, I've played it all night. Incredible tone. Deep, full, clear and very bright without getting "twangy". Chords sound amazing on my bass. Finger picking individual notes out of guitar chords was so much fun. The notes just rang out beautifully with wonderful sustain.

They are perfectly tapered on the ball end, with a very smooth feel for a very bright roundwound. And yes, even the thin, high "E" is a wrapped string, although it almost looks like a plain unwrapped string. I am very impressed with the feel, tone and the price is great for a 7 string set.

If you've been wanting to string your 6 string bass up in guitar tuning to EADGBE and want bright strings, this is the set to get. I highly recommend these.

Strings By Mail also carries the SIT Conklin Signature 7-string set, 18-25-35-55-85-110-135, which are also exposed-core stainless steel rounds. Only $39.99! The gauges are lighter than the DM, though.

I've used SR2000'S on my Peavey Cirrus six strings for over 20 years. I find them to be the perfect string for my playing!

Interesting! The last time I used the SR2000's was on my Cirrus 5 string! The "feel" and tone are incredible. ON my new sixer they are a perfect fit and balance.

Where are you guys buying your DM SR2000's? I used them for years and years, and then they became really inconsistent around the time they changed the packaging, and I ended up having to send back MANY sets so I stopped using them. I'd like to try them again but only place I have found them is on Amazon.

Strings By Mail usually has them in stock.

Yeah that was one of the first places I checked but they have very few choices in gauges.
Matt at Strings By Mail is the main guy I deal with. You can contact him by email at [email protected]. If the particular set you're interested in is not listed on their site, all you need to do is to let him know what you need and he can order it for you. I've dealt with him for the last 10 yrs and he has always been responsive and helpful.

That's usually the case and you kind of have to scoop them up when they pop up in the guage you need. I play lights and a six string which are typically in stock because no one else are buying them, lol.
Yeah...and even fewer 7 string players. I buy the 7 string set for $50 and set the Low B aside as I tune up EADGCF now. They are super bright, "tapered" core on the low B, E and A and very smooth playing for a roundwound.
