Death"core"/Progressive Bass Rig Suggestions

My friends decided to start a band and wanted me to play bass. I have a bass but haven't really used it much, yet I have been playing guitar for the past 4 years. I tried out and they said I was in, so now I need to find a bass cab. We play sort of low in a B standard tuning. We can be compared to Born of Osiris, After the Burial, and Veil of Maya. I have a budget of about $500 to get a head, cab, and possibly a pedal. Any suggestions?

I have been looking at Behringer, Hartke, GK, etc. Send me some ideas on some good gear.
Im looking mainly at Guitar Center's used gear section.

See if you can pick up a used Carvin BX500 or a B1500. Great heads with lots of head room and would easily push a pair or cabs. I would start with either a 410, 215, or 212. My experience tells me to suggest staying away from Beringer, but there are some people on here that like them.

BTW, if your are tuned that low and the guitars are heavily distorted then I think a clean tone would do the band's sound a better service than you being distorted too. It is just my opinion.

This is perfectly true. With my Ashdown MAG 300, I just got a nice clean tone and I helped the band's sound much more than by pushing for any sort of overdrive or anything.

We were tuned to drop G. So long as you can get a nice fat tone, you'll be fine.

uuuuhhhh, I know I'm a little late but GK isn't what I'd ever consider other than maybe the 2001RB for your style. I'm all over a GK- if slap is a priority, but it's a third option for really heavy stuff.

On a budget, with the sound you're after, the BDDI + poweramp has a better sound. Add whatever cab you like, FOH is going to be great. Then, when you get to try some other options decide for yourself what fits you best.

Really heavy stuff not suited for GK? Ha! Just ask Justin Chancellor of Tool and find out what he thinks about running three separate channels of GK tones for the studio and live stuff. the tone he got on 10,000 days can cut through nearly any band out there.

The BDDI plus a power amp is not the greatest idea if the OP had more money and speakers to hear himself. It's a scooped midrange tone through one cabinet at this point.

The idea for a GK Backline head and Goldline 410 is a good idea. DO NOT TOUCH THE CONTOUR KNOB if you want to be heard on stage and in practice. Leave that knob all the way to the left. All it does is decrease the midrange and up the lows and highs.

Not at all. Just mentioning that GK amps and cabs can handle heavier styles of music.

I don't believe in this way of thinking "this amp is good for this genre and terrible for others". When in reality, adjusting your playing techniques, string choices, and speaker cab choices make the idea of an amp not being good enough for certain genres very inaccurate.

I'd get a used Peavey 410tvx (I actually want one of these cabs myself) and spend the rest on whatever GK you can get, you might have enough left to get a used 800rb/700rbII/1001rbII. I wouldn't worry about a pedal until you've been playing for a while with the new gear imo.
