decent or crappy rig?

GK backline 600, GK 410, GK 115. I play a Thunderbird and a Dean V. This rig is working but tends to get muddy at high vol when going from hi solo to Low E. I play doom metal. I also have a dod bass overdrive seems no matter how I tweak it that bottom end gets muddy and downs out my mids. Any suggestions.

You won't lose low end by getting rid of the 15. 15's are no better at delivering ultra low bass than any other speaker size.

Losing the 15 doesnt translate into losing the low end. those Eight 10s will more than keep up, only real difference is much more weight to lug around (more weight per speaker + more speakers = quite a heft).

-Its been stressed galore on this site. And I'll tell you that I didnt believe it at first, but then I came to the same conclusions thru experimenting with all the "variables". So stick with the same size speaker either way

Great advice all around. The biggest thing you can do for yourself is to match your cabs. Pairing a 15 and a 410 is no way to run a railroad. It's maybe doable if you're using a crossover, but even then--I wouldn't.

I think it's legit to go either a pair of 410s or a pair of 15s. Decide based on cost, weight, volume and of course sound. If you play high volumes you might want to stick with 410s.

And speaking of high volume, you probably do want some more watts. 500w @ 4 Ohms minimum, I would think. Maybe even more.

What cabs are these, by the way? I have a GK 410. Mine's the MBX line. Got it used for cheap.

The 700rbII is 540w @ 4ohms w/ a separate 50w amp for the horn/tweeters. Then down the road you could add a pair of Neo's or scour craigslist and TB for a used set of SBX cabs ( I found (2) 410's for $500) so you can fully utilize the biamp ability of the head if you so choose to do so.
