Decent short scale lefty?

After getting my sx short scale jazz, I've realized that 30" is the right scale for me. My 34" bass just hurts my fretting hand. So what I want to know, are there any decent lefties out there in 30"? Four string preferred, all pickup configurations considered. I prefer thinner necks, I wear a small in most gloves. I'd like to keep the price under $700 if possible. I've strongly considered warmoth, but the cost there adds up really quick.

Also, any good mods for that sx? Tuners that will fit? Replacement bridges? Link to the thread about stripping the necks on those?

Thanks

If you are looking outside the Fender "box" I suggest you look at a Danelectro and flip the nut. My Longhorn is a Korean "Pro" model with modernised, sturdier hardware. Sounds good (thick, complex mids) for a cheap instrument and is very light. Some buyers report that the Chinese made ones are not consistently good, though.

The danelectro longhorn is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen.

The only thing is I can get two sxs and mods for both for 800. I've at least played them, I won't get to play the Gibson before buying. Do they neck dive really bad? I had a guitar that was horrible in that regard.

I'm waiting to hear back if the rockbass corvette short scale can be had in a lefty

I wouldn't hesitate to say the SG Bass is likely the best short scale bass you can get your hands on aside from the Hofner bass.

A Hofner Icon is also an option, though it won't be as nice as the Gibson.

Absolutely. I have the faded brown and it's beautiful. Just over six pounds and it it sounds great. Or if you want to spend another $600 on the reissue for block inlays and a different nut.....

I have the standard model. The finish is much nicer, and the inlays are more appealing. It's just a better package all around if you can find a nice price for it.

Of course, if you're on a budget, the faded SGs are the way to go.

The finish is glossy, the inlays, another headstock decal, and a different nut are the differences right? I'm not knocking it or you good sir, if I had the dough I'd get one. Have you played the faded? Any tone or balance differences?

Yes, you can have two basses that are just OK after mods (and fret leveling, etc) or you can have one killer bass, ready to go. That's a personal choice.

According to the Warwick website, the Rockbass SS is available in both left and right handed. Whether to not it's available in the US is another story. Ask the official Warwick rep on the Warwick sub-forum here. His username is Warwick Official, and he officially answers everything officially Warwickian.

I sent him a pm, waiting to hear back.

How bad is the neck dive on the sg?

Also, what is the reach like? I know it's short scale, but the strap button is much farther away from the headstock than most other basses.

There's not much of a tone difference. The biggest differences are cosmetic, which might make a difference if you're concerned about a certain kind of image.

That said, I've played a faded and a standard. The standard sounded much better. As I recall, they were both set up the same. I even played two standards that were setup the same and they were different.

The faded feels like it's seen a few things, while the standard feels utterly innocent.
