any suggestions for a head under 300$?

Go for a power amp that does 500 watts at 8 ohms and even higher at 4 ohms. Grab a bass pre-amp of some sort and blast away. This is a cheaper route to go and you can find someone on craigslist or on this forum that is selling those items together. This is the cheaper route than grabbing a bass head. For $300, just keep searching. Or even better, save a little more money.
