Really. There may be a few other items of interest as well. (Not affiliated with the auctioneer; just saw the news and thought I'd pass it along.) (Wasn't sure if this should go in basses or for sale...)
My first thought was that Anthony Bourdain would buy it. R.I.P. Anthony & Dee Dee: I can't even describe how profoundly sad it made me to walk those streets, right in front of the Chelsea & over to CBGB. Coincidentally I'm watching a movie now where two band-members sneak into the defunct CBGBs & they're looking at flyers of The Ramones & other bands on the walls.
Thanks for posting! I'm usually surprised at how low celebrity instruments sell for. Pretty sure this would be an exception. I'd "buy it now" at $10K assuming it's legit. Wonder what it will go for.
Dee Dee was the shizzle !!! Still one of my all time favs. The Ramones are one of the main reason I picked up an instrument 25 years ago. Punk bass legend. That bass ooooozzzzesss cool!!!!! /
Dee Dee was The Songwriter in the Ramones, even after he was no longer IN the band he was still writing songs for them & I think the best songs on Mondo Bizarro were Dee Dee's songs. IIRC he used the money from Poison Heart to get out of jail, or summat. Marky tried to convince Dee Dee to stay in the band when he knocked out Pet Sematary on a whim after dinner at Stephen King's home.
Ironically, she was one of those faking it, she can't play guitar & it showed. I'm watching Aly's sister now on The Goldbergs.
I was stage manager at Univ. of MD and they played there in either 80' or 81'. The rider called for a steak dinner that our caterer provided. I bring the dinners back stage and put them out on a table, wheel over a cooler with drinks and am headed out the door when Joey says, "this steak is tough". I apologize and then send one of my guys out to get new food and to bring back a few spares in case their crew or road manager wants to eat. 20 minutes later I bring the new dinners in and Joey says did you eat. I say no, and he says why don't you eat with us. Everybody was pretty quiet but I always thought it was cool for them to ask me to have dinner with them.
Dang, that's incredibly cool. I started out on bass playing Ramones songs back in the early '80s. I saw the guys live 5-6 times (only once without Dee Dee), and they delivered every single show. They allegedly fined each other for mistakes, and I believe it.
25% on top of the final price! I missed out on a Robert Quine telecaster used on Destiny Street, a few years before his death in 1999/2000. I got to hold a Wayne Kramer/Johnny Thunders owned black lucite Dan Armstrong, but couldn’t talk the owner out of it about 5-6 years ago. Looks like a lack of money will keep me away from a Dee Dee P bass... dammit why did I buy a car!
