Your Blowtorch sounds like a Woolly Mammoth, though less gated if you replace your 18v power supply with a 12v...

You will not blow it up. You cannot blow up electronics from less voltage.

see, again here my lack of knowledge is a big shortcomming, i know that if i put a 9v power supply in the 18v blowtorch, it'll kill it (probably), but if i starve the voltage using a sag pedal, i dont damage it, and will also get some freakiness? hmmmmmmmmmmmm

There's always some weird exception in electronics, but it would be very weird if plugging 9V into the Blowtorch would kill it. I could easily see it might "sound broken" while plugged in that way, but it would go back to normal when given the right voltage. Again though, maybe their circuit is really unusual.

My whole :eyebrow: about voltage sag devices is that part of the dying-battery effect comes from the lower voltage, but an equally big part of it comes from the non-linear way that voltage is drawn from the battery. IOW merely reducing the voltage is a half-assed effort.
 
Yeah apparently the Blowtorch is an exception, I think it could have been Mystic Boo who told me about it, its my second blowtorch coz the first (second hand) was faulty, even though i was using the right power supply, and some people suggested that the blowtorch definitely will become faulty if used with the wrong power suppy, but that this wasnt as common for other effects.

id be really interested to hear what a voltage-starved Blue Box sounds like, but you (Bongo) reckon something like the Defiance isnt really gonna give you a substitute for dying batteries as such. but you must admit that for people who want that sound, its a damn sight more convinient way of going about it (if you consider that many TB Effects members probably dont use batteries to power their effects generally - I personally get pretty paranoid when i have to rely on batteries) also just so that you dont have to worry about the batteries actually dying on you mid song at a gig.

There is a way, and I know one of the kooky boutique builders designed a circuit specifically for this function built into their own overdrive pedal, but (a) I can't remember who it was ATM; (b) I don't know what the circuit is exactly; and (c) it was not a standalone function in a box from that builder, at least IIRC.

I'll try to dredge through the old rusty file cabinet on the top of my neck and see if I can come up with the details.
