What's everybody's opinion on delano pickups? I recently bought a maruszczyk with the jc5 and mm pu and love the sound of them in fact I would go as far as to say they are the best sounding pickups I've heard in my years of playing

I have, they were awesome. Played them in the Sandberg Anniversary bass. They sounded great in all configs.Have any of y'all used those big oval ones?
Cool.Delano Xtenders with Sonar 3/S preamp and pickup configuration switches on my Maruszczyk. As you can see from the Warwick Corvette $$ with MEC pickups beside it, I like the option. The Spectra Pro has Nordstrom pickups with a mid boost center switch and passive switch, and it's very bright compared to the other two (but adding bass at the instrument tames the brightness).

Well, Maruszczyk offers even more advanced preamps than I have, though a bass/mid/treble is enough for my needs, I'm not sure that I'd even use the extra functionality that a mid-frequency selection switch would give me, but ... maybe? I use it on the Spectra but rarely change it... sometimes on the BDDI just because it sounds a bit too "deep" in my usual switch preference.Id love to drop them in a jazz bass, or better yet, a Maruszcyk build.
I think people overstate the effect scale length has on the tone, I have 4 short scale basses and only one of them could be described as dark and that is the one that is made out of mahogany.I hope i enjoy the delano jazz pickups with giant pole pieces - my next build is a set of those with a bart TCT preamp in a short scale bass. Crossing my fingers it sounds pretty bright with stainless steel strings in spite of the scale length
I'm with Ian Allison, they sound kind of "tubby" to me. Mid focused and deep all the way up the neck. There's almost a chorus sound on D/G strings on frets above 10 with the two short-scales that I play regularly. It's not wrong, it's just different.I think people overstate the effect scale length has on the tone, I have 4 short scale basses and only one of them could be described as dark and that is the one that is made out of mahogany.
The chorus thing is normally because your pickup height is off. I think it's too close to the strjngs if I remember correctly.I'm with Ian Allison, they sound kind of "tubby" to me.
