This AM I went out for my bi-monthly haircut and I got into a barbershop jam session and since I didn't have my own bass, I was 'loaned' one: A Mosrite 'California' bass.
It was a short scale - but it was kinda nice with a maple neck. Intonation was a bit off so I stayed outta guitar land above the 10th fret with it.
Lots of fun to play old-time-y Bluegrass and Country. There was a slack bow fiddler, a 5-string plectrum banjo, a Dobro and two flat tops and one guy was a very good picker.
Anyway - the Mosrite was a nice 'cross this line out' for what WAS on my Bucket List - but I don't remember this very same California model very well at all.
It had the Mosrite - California logo on the headstock and the headstock was natural blonde-ish.
The body was hollow or at least semi-so, and deep red.
I'm glad I got this outta my system - but quite frankly the bass was a little of a let down. It's not like I remember it was in 'the day'.
The amp he had was an old Peavey Hy-Drive I think was a 115. Meh.
