Hi Everybody!
I have tried to join this excellent forum before but my patience and computer skills failed me! I am a hot and cold amateur orchestral bassist from Ireland. French bow, white hair.
Love my 4 string Pollmann Cremona 4/4 and I am currently rehearsing fabulous music for a March concert, including Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony, Brahms academic festival overture and Grieg's Peer Gynt suites 1 and 2.
I haven't had a lesson since well before the pandemic, but had moved onto Bille part 2 number 5 after studying selected Simandl 2 excercises. I think Bille is excellent.
I am currently interested in Fifths tuning and think it may be the way to go especially if tensions could be lowered and stop length minimised to help overcome the technical difficulties. I use low tension flexicors and don't use extension or 5 strings as tone is king and low E is fine for amateurs.
Looking forward to interacting and learning from you guys!
