I finally got a chance to play some of the DeMars electroacoustic basses at NAMM. Bass Player magazine reviewed them in the same issue as the Nordy vJ5 reviews.

You gotta give props to this cool company from my home state of Vermont!!

Oh yes, indeed. I played a four-string and really liked it... Until I learned how much it cost! I looked it over again and, though a most fine instrument it certainly is, it did not reek of $3K to me.

On the other hand, I thought the Godin A4 fretless was almost as good, both in tone and playability. And it costs one-third of a DeMars.

Hi everyone -

Dan from DeMars Guitars here. Thanks for the nice post Jay - glad you enjoyed the time at the booth, as did many other bassists (way to many to name, including Jauqo...).

The bass in the pic with Jay is one of our new magnetic pickup basses, the 5-string Long Trail Mag (we also had a 4-string with a flame maple top at the booth). This one has a passive Bartolini but Jay was convinced that a Nordy pickup would sound better. Info will be on our website before too long.

Jay, I hear you, sir. I'm a transplanted Vermonter meself and learning of the existence these basses has me wishing I was back in the Green Mountain State right now!:scowl: Now begins the slow process of saving up 3K (and convincing my better half that a bass is the right way to use it).

I saw that Advance in Burlington is a dealer. I plan to be up that way in a couple of months---here's to hoping they have one in the store to demo!
