Demonfx Optocoupler - Unsure If It Is Fully Operational.

When I turn the compression knob there isn’t that much of a change in the sound. I have other compressors that are much more noticeable. I can’t tell whether the pedal is just not working right or not. Anyone have experience with this one?

Seems like you may be looking for more of an “effect” type compressor. Are you looking for more “squish”? If so, this may not be the right pedal for you as it sounds like it’s designed to be subtle, but still effective in most mixes.

I have a DemonFX Cali76 clone (yeah, I know - I bought a few different DFX pedals to try before plunking down money on the real thing, which I’ve done, save for the Cali76) and I experience the same thing with it. Doesn’t seem like it does much, save for input and output volume. Having never tried the “original”, I don’t know if this is typical for this type of compressor.

i'm currently doing the same thing with DFX - making a shopping list from their "DEMO PEDALS".

I have the CALL76 and it works great - i've had the OG, from what i remember it's pretty close - other than the PCB layout being funky: LED meter is inside the box.

I agree with @Planet Boulder - that may not be the style of comp you are used to or looking for.

@Jim C sent me two different DFX Call76 units that didn’t seem to br doing much of anything. I recalibrated one and it then did a lot by my standards here, but on return he reported no improvement. The second one benefitted from recalibration too, but at this point it doesn’t seem worth shipping back. Not sure what’s going on, and I don’t use compression, so both units are going to be local giveaways, or more likely just go to recycle.

FWIW, DFX never answered my request for factory calibration specs, so I would probably never buy any of their products, even before the IP conundrum.

FWIW, I use the CALL76 end of chain before my ToneX ONE and Nano Cortex

It's not a smash and level monster

I treat it like a studio comp at mixdown

Works great in this use case

I don't like comps at the beginning of my chain at all

All the other DFX boxes have been fantastic.
