Does anyone happen to know which strings Derrick Hodge uses on his Fender? I guess there's more to his tone than strings but it sounds so clear and fat and big.

Derrick Hodge Strings?

Hey. looks like (dark) blue silk at the headstock (11:03) but no silk at the bridge (at around 10:56). The only string I could find, that look like that are Sadowsky Blue Label SBS 45B strings, but I might be wrong.

Something else I noticed in the video... Does that low B string look like it's tapered at the bridge end just behind the saddle? They're all strung thru-body, so the taper doesn't appear to be quite long enough to sit over the saddle.
All Sadowsky 5-string sets DO come with a tapered B and the taper is 2", which is not quite long enough for thru-body on a Fender. So, you may be right in saying they're Sadowsky.
hey @michael_t , I didn't even notice that, looks like you are right. So it really must be the Sadowsky strings then.
Thanks for pointing out where we might see a closeup shot of the strings. I simply didn't have the patience to watch the whole video to find that out for myself.
In addition, Sadowsky strings are 37" in winding length (ball end to silk) on all five strings. The way the blue silks line up evenly all across and where the silks start when strung thru-body also match the Sadowsky specs.

Maybe I should just sit back and watch the video for the music and not just for string ID.
thanks for posting this. I'm always blown away by his playing and tone, but had figured him for a flats guy based on the stuff I know (mostly on Robert Glasper's work).
I also mostly know him from his work with Robert Glasper, but I can't recall ever thinking he was using flats on his Fender V?

At this point, I should just assume everyone in the industry is using Dunlop Super Brights. Whoever endorsed all these artists did a great job.

Except the strings in the video in the original post are not Dunlop as the Super Bright rounds don't have silk on them.
