detuning a 6-string bass to A: what do i need to know?

Detuning a 6 to ADGCFBb --->>> probably all you need to do is a setup and adjustment after detuning so you don't fret out and buzz too much.

You might prefer slightly heavier strings.

Simply put - wouldn't it be a good thing if you can play at A with the same tension, feel, technique and tone as you've got at standard E?

IDK, I'm not technically savvy when it comes to strings. I tend to like the feel of lower tension strings. IMHO it makes for easier play. If that makes sense.

One thing that I'm sure would help in achieving good tone on your BTB is the fact that it had a 35" scale length. Granted, some instruments are very well made and can give the same result with a 34" scale length, but a 35" scale does help.

As for string gauge, I would say 130 or anything above should give a decent enough sound at least.
