DG112N or SL112

Hi guys,

After long long break (almost 10 years), i am starting to play again. Excited as hell, enjoying, but also a bit overwhelmed with the equipment part as i was totally out of loop for such a long time..

So, in the next few days i will be pulling a trigger and get myself a ToneHammer 500 amp. But i am still unsure what cab to pair it with. For the starters (as i will mainly play at home in the beginning) i wanted to get myself one 12cab so later i can scale it up once i will need more power. Also, I really want to have something very light and portable as i travel and move between different locations a lot. This is a must for me..And this neo cabs look like a perfect choice for that purpose. Also, i just don’t like combos, they are a no go for me.

But, due to my location I don’t have many options at the moment. Only Darkglass DG112N or Aguilar SL112 are available - and only online. So no chance for me to try anything.

Initially I wanted to go with SL112 as I hope they will match perfectly with Tonehammer and I kind of have an idea how it will sound. On the other hand I noticed that darkglass has a great reputation nowadays and this DG112N looks like a good (and a bit cheaper) option too - although i guess it will have a different color than Aguilar.

But i have trouble finding any info about the latter one. Anyone had an opportunity to play with it? What are the main differences from Ag cab? Any impressions would help me a lot.

I have been looking at lightweight 1x12 cabinets too. The Darkglass has a lower efficiency which I think means it won't provide as much volume given the same signal. But it has a bigger power handling number. The Aguilar is more of a known quantity. Opinions are all over the map but it has sold very well and they haven't needed to update it in almost 10 years.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, i think i’ve read what ever is ever written about sl112 with the limited offer, i am also leaning towards ag as it a bit safer bet. And as you said, being for such a long time on the market without any modifications - they probably got it pretty well. Hope it could work for me too

I was not able to get any more info so i went with SL112, paired with ToneHammer 500. let's see how this will work out.

I think you'll be happy with that choice. I have an SL212 with my TH500 and it's great. If you find you need more volume, that second SL112 will give you a great modular, light weight solution.

Congrats !
I have also been gigging a single SL112 and TH-500 for about 7 years now with great results and fair range of available tones... don't forget to play with the tweeter dial, it really makes a difference, also backing off the bass even a little on the TH-500 really helps if you want to push it hard.
...rarely need to get my DB cabs out any more, although I do enjoy their growl and feeling of standing in front of 2x 12's going for it

It’s finally here! I just had half an hour to play with it but it sounds great on the flat settings. Now the fun starts.

I will post my impressions after few days, as soon as I try few more things

Btw. This is my first cab with tweeters, how do you use it guys? I play fretless so it may come in handy if i am not mistaken. So far i didn’t touch it - knob is set on 12 o’clock, it came like that. I will play with it too.
