i was thinkin about ordering from music123.com so would also like opinions on the quality of this dealer. any help appreciated!

I haven't Wulliebass, but I am definitely interested in them as well. I read this article about the standard model a few years ago and they looked really cool. From this article it seems to be great in the sound department too, which is the clincher!

Hi Wulliebass, i've found Music123 to be expensive in their shipping costs. I've also had problems with the delivery people they use.

In my experience, it is better to order a bass from a shop that knows about basses and is small enough to care about your order.

Music123 would be my last resort.

Nice bass. I liked it, and the playability was quite good. The reason that I sold it is because it was quite jazz bass sounding, and I already had a good jazz. Nothing special, but nothing bad at all.

I wish i would have kept it and tried flats on it.

I have the Belvedere Standard, which is functionally identical to the Deluxe. The differences are purely cosmetic. It's an amazing instrument, and you'll probably find my comments on it with a search. I've also reviewed it on Harmony-Central.com. It's well built, looks amazing, and has a fast, very playable neck with an ebony fretboard. The fretboard has a fairly flat radius, and allows even lower action than my MIA Fenders. (I get setups for free at Chris DiPinto's shop, which helps.)

The tone, however, is the main reason to own one. It produces a simply humongous sound, with lots of vintage vibe seasoned with the semi-hollow resonance and "air." The single coil pickups are very hot. With the neck pickup soloed it's a lot like a semi-hollow P-bass would sound, but with much more punch than a P-bass with a stock pickup.
And with both on it's a little like a semi-hollow J would sound with both pickups on full. Even though it's "rootsy" as someone else said, it's also aggressive and will growl and cut like crazy when played hard with roundwound strings. I've used it for punk and hard rock with excellent results. It records well too, with a hefty old-school thump down low.

But I play my Fenders more frequently for one reason: the DiPinto's short upper horn creates a longer reach to first position. I don't have very long arms, and my Fenders are just more comfortable. This was never much of an issue in my previous bands, but my current band's material is a little more challenging, so I want every playability advantage. Even so, I plan to break it out on some gigs soon, because the tone and looks are just to die for. It rules the stage, and my bandmates love it.

It has another advantage too: a 24 fret neck. DiPinto doesn't advertise this, but it comes in handy sometimes. And it sounds absolutely incredible up there with the neck pickup soloed -- sort of the bass equivalent of a Strat played up high with its neck pickup soloed. Lots of character and depth. It just sings.

I've had only good experience with Music123, but for an international order you might want to deal directly with DiPinto. Chris is a great guy, who will want to help you out. www.dipintoguitars.com Alright, you know where I stand -- do it! :D

Edit: I agree with Bass Player's review, so consult that with confidence.

thanks folks, great help or perhaps encouragement is more appropriate! have been looking into dealing direct, only problems are it's actually more expensive than 123 for shipping and for some reason they can't ship any cases? it also come with body and neck seperate and i've never set up anything before and wouldn't want to make an arse of such of such a beutiful guitar!

I had a Belvedere Deluxe. It had a custom satin pickguard and I bought it solely for the wild looks. I mostly agree with what Nedmundo had to say. The tone falls somewhere between a Jazz bass and the Lakland HB I also owned. And it is sort of rootsy and aggressive.

Again, one of those "nice basses for the money"... especially used. The tone and looks were cool, but otherwise I was more comfortable on a solidbody and the Lakland blew it away for construction. The big knock on the Deluxe model is that those sparkly appointments around the F-hole and pickups have extremely sharp edges and I was always gouging up my knuckles.

I like the looks of that hollowbody...

BTW, your avatar is making me drool bino!

Mmmmm... Crispy, juicy, tender chicken...

ha, is it wrong to be swayed completely by aesthetics? the standards just seem kinda boring, gotta have that sparkle! also like the "agressive" sound that people are commenting on, i have an agressive pic style so it should suit sweetly. that's really hard to say out loud!

Not wrong at all to go with sparkle! My band in 2003 was too low-key for it, but I think it's awesome. Don't think for a second that the standards are boring looking though. All that chrome, binding, etc., draws lots of attention. Mine's gold, and it's caused a stir at gigs and in music stores.

And it sounds excellent with a pick. If you're a fan of Queens of the Stone Age, check out the recent concert DVD, which features hollow or semi-hollow basses played pickstyle. The DiPinto can deliver that heavy tone.

funnily enough, i'm not a huge queens fan but one of the main reasons i've been lookin at both semi hollow guitars and basses is because i absolutely love josh homme's guitar sound and have noticed the use of semi hollows. good stuff!
