First off, if you're looking to purchase a new one through mail-order, go to
Sweetwater (here are thier DIs). They have a much more knowledgable and helpful staff that can guide youin the right direction.
The Sansamp you linked is a good box, and TONS of people here swear by them. If you're looking for a little tone control as well, it'd be the way to go.

A $20 Behringer is not a good idea.
This $20 Behringer may not be a good idea. I dunno, never used it. But I've had surprisingly good experiences with
this $35 Behringer. I say surprisingly because I really didn't expect much from it. I had to use one in a pinch, when I am used to using a J-Retro, Countryman, Avalon, or Groove Tubes, but even with a strong output active preamp, the Behringer didn't crap out. It provided a clean and clear enough signal to please me. It shouldn't be written off just because of the name. If you just want to send your signal to a console, and can't drop too much cash, it'd be a viable choice.
Well within your price range you could search eBay or here for a good used Radial, BBE, Countryman 85, etc.
