Hey guys, I was wondering If you could help me with finding a direct input box. My brother says it can really help my sound and I've done some research. I'm also open to recommendations. here's what i came up with

First off, if you're looking to purchase a new one through mail-order, go to Sweetwater (here are thier DIs). They have a much more knowledgable and helpful staff that can guide youin the right direction.
The Sansamp you linked is a good box, and TONS of people here swear by them. If you're looking for a little tone control as well, it'd be the way to go.

This $20 Behringer may not be a good idea. I dunno, never used it. But I've had surprisingly good experiences with this $35 Behringer. I say surprisingly because I really didn't expect much from it. I had to use one in a pinch, when I am used to using a J-Retro, Countryman, Avalon, or Groove Tubes, but even with a strong output active preamp, the Behringer didn't crap out. It provided a clean and clear enough signal to please me. It shouldn't be written off just because of the name. If you just want to send your signal to a console, and can't drop too much cash, it'd be a viable choice.
Well within your price range you could search eBay or here for a good used Radial, BBE, Countryman 85, etc.

Umm, help your sound in what way? A crappy DI would definitely hurt your sound, but what do you think a 'good' DI would do for you?

(I use one of three for most sessions - 90% of the time, an Eclair Engineering Evil Twin, 5% of the time, an A Designs REDDI, and the other 5% split between an Avalon and everything else (Radials seem to be gaining prominence there, though...).

I have a BDI21, I haven't used it as a DI (though I've heard signal is weak), but it does a decent job through the 1/4". There are alot of pedals with an XLR out.

I agree with Dave in that there aren't many DI's out there that will really hurt or help your sound. Now, if you are running a 100 foot instrument cable to the line in on your mixer then yeah, get a direct box. Maybe you should tell us about your setup and what you're unhappy with. You're not going to get a specific "sound" with a DI; the subleties aren't as noticable as switching amps.
