Diamond is BACK baby!!

So, I spent several hours trying the new Diamond Bass Comp EQ over the past few days.

Fender Player precision and jazz bass guitars and a Squier CV single coil early 1950s precision bass.

Traynor combo amps, SB112 200W, SB115 200W, BB115 800W with Traynor 115 cabinet.

Broughton HPF/LPF, Omnicomp, SVpre, Scorpion. Empress Bass Ompressor. SolidGoldFX BetaV bass preamp.

The Broughton and Empress compressors have more controls, and maybe fine tuning of compression effect, and sound cleaner (especially Empress). The Diamond seems a little blunt by comparison. Overall it’s effective maybe in a different way, not sure I could tell the difference in a blind test. It’s definitely warmer though.

The EQ part of the Diamond is deceptively simple, it gives a wonderful-sounding range of warm and useful tones.

With preamps like the SVpre, Scorpion, BetaV, the Diamond distinctiveness is overwhelmed. But by itself it’s a very simple but effective and much less expensive alternative to having compressors and preamps, a beautiful little pedal that’s really fun to use.

The old has center positive. That's enough for me to bail out. The JR may have not, and it's battery powered too I think.

Yes only the very old 'big box' ones are center positive. For some reason people seem to think that all Diamond pedals are like this, but this hasn't been the case for about 59 years*

*may not be accurate but the point is, any modern Diamond pedal is powered just like any other pedal.

My observation is the BCP/EQ triggers the compression later than the old BCP-1 but hits harder

If that makes any sense.

The BCP/EQ works nicely with all pedals I have tried it with.

Aggressive playing on a flatwound 5 string active MTD is capable of headroom “Fuzz” if the Comp is set high. (9volts)

I’m not going to bother buying a 18v Cable Boost. I am happy with 9V with all my Basses with the way I play or functionality I’m looking for

The BCP/EQ is NOT the worlds greatest Bass Compressor but it might be the “Best” Tone enhancer for me

What’s wrong with blue? I find it easy on the eyes. White LEDs are blinding.
Erhh...say what?
Now, this pic of dormant stage equipment, with all leds on on all amps which one sticks out the most? The only thing apart from the Chinese Wall that's visible from space!

Now, find me a proper science research that came to the opposite conclusion of below:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

"Blue light from electronics is linked to problems like blurry vision, eyestrain, dry eye, macular degeneration, and cataracts"

According to research (and pretty extensive research too) blue LED lights are bad for eyes. LED lights produce excess high-energy blue light which affects your eyes and health. Despite this, LEDs have become super common for their cost-saving properties"

"Blue light is of concern because it has more energy per photon of light than other colors in the visible spectrum, i.e. green or red light. Blue light, at high enough doses, is therefore more likely to cause damage when absorbed by various cells in our body, and eyes".

... just as there were no alternatives to white light. Red, green, amber, yellow, orange. I've never owned one with white light I tell you.

That's why the use blue lights on emergency vehicles in most countries in Scandinavia. And mainland EU too. In dark it provides that contrast that differs alarmingly clearly from anything else surrounding it. And it differs from read brake lights and back lights of cars. It is deliberately causing "irritating to the eye" just as the actual car is painted in neon yellow. Both blue and neon (luminiscent) yellow cuts through in fog, mist, and rain. It should not come "easy to the eyes" at all.

Sticks out like a sore thumb.

As fast as I got my new combo Ampeg RB112 I taped the blue led over with black gaffers tape. I can still see it. i have an pesky blue led box under my TV that converts HDMI to SPDIF and I have to unplug it every time I don't use it. It distracts me like hell. Next to it is a regular cable tv receiver box, with red light. A LED too. Not even one third as obtrusive or annoying. Not at all really. Soft and faint.

I mean only, like they would incorporate BLUE LED lights, just as if there was something wrong with the former colors used, red, green, amber, orange, and even white, and variants thereof. There wasn't any real incentive to start using blue leds other than vanity. They were considered posh, and more luxory due to that they were more expensive to make in the beginning, as it was early on, impossible to do blue leds from the start on.

What was wrong with the other colors, or that they lacked, that blue leds helped with? Visible in sunlight? No way, all the others except white and yelow where too.

Considering stage lights, it's any even wash. If your PAR 64 cans above shines in whatever color you LED is, it washes them out. That's why I don't like colored screens on multifxpedals like Helix and so on. Black and white like BOSS are visible in any color of the stage lights and sunlight.
