Diesel 2x15...eBay scam??

I know this won't help you now but there is a clue that the item description isn't accurate. On the top it says "like new" yet later in the description he states that the handles have paint worn off. The pictures also verify that the exterior is not "like new". This may not have been intentional but it shows that the seller is unable (or unwilling) to give an accurate description of the item for sale. I would have stayed away from this auction for this reason.

I believe that you should discuss your issues privately with the seller before taking more drastic measures. To me "like new" implies that the condition is as if it were new inside and out. That includes the issue concerning the replacement speakers because the jackplate clearly states what kind of speakers are in this cab when it's "like new". Just keep in mind that this might not have been an intentional scam so be polite but firm with whatever stance you take.

That's true, but we don't know that the seller bought the cabinet new... And as I commented earlier, the seller's feedback doesn't show much activity with respect to musical instrument gear.

Besides, the seller recently bought an Ampeg SVT-610HLF, another big deep sounding cabinet...possibly to replace the Mesa 2x15 that didn't sound as good as they had hoped (probably because the speakers were out of phase).

Perhaps "like new" was a little generous if the handles needed paint, but if you go to GC and look at the "brand new" gear on the floor, you'll see all sorts of cosmetic damage.

Being somewhat interested third parties, we have no way of knowing all the facts. The seller's feedback rating at least shows that they can act responsibly and perhaps in their perception, like new tolex is far more important (which to me it is too) than is like new handle paint.

Considering all this, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, approach them with the problem, and see how they react. Then make the next move based on that...

I wasn't trying to imply that the seller was shady, just that there is an actual discrepancy between the ad and the delivered product. Maybe the seller didn't know. I would still imagine the responsibility lies with the seller.

Warning: odd analogy follows....
If I was to sell a vintage car advertised with low mileage and like new, but with the motor replaced with one from a riding mower, I would be resposible. Even had I thought that I was not misrepresenting my car.

I completely agree with respectfully broaching the issue with the seller. A partial reimbursement may be the best option. Won't have the original speakers, but you might be able to get comparable ones with money you saved.....

Does anyone have any other knowledge about the old EV speakers? There's got to be a place that sells originals. What were the original EVs called (model)?

Tomorrow Mesa is open and I will call them and ask if they have anything lying around that could be of use. I'll also ask them about the originals and if the Powerhouse or Black Shadow ones are suitable.

The email will be sent to him tomorrow also. Hopefully I'll have some news for you guys by the end of tomorrow.

how do those B52 speakers sound in that cab?

I found the specs (see below) & it "looks" like they might be ok speakers.

i've never used that cab, but if those B52 speakers sound good in it, then why not just keep them?

I most likely will end up keeping them, but I do want some money back and the only way I will keep the cabinet is if I can get GOOD speakers for it.

They sound ok at best. It does lack in midrange, which is a sound I like, but they don't have the definition of other 15s I've played. I think most of the sound comes from this beast of a cabinet. I touched the woofers and they are kind of soft. I am talking about the actual paper material itself.

My problem is I want the EV sound that everyone raves about. I've played Mesa cabinets (which may or may not have been EV) before when I starting out and liked them. Back then I didn't know the difference in speakers. I never really cared for the Powerhouse series, though, and this is why I went with Diesel EV.

I put them back in phase the day I got it. HUGE difference.

I called Mesa and the Powerhouse 15s are suitable for the Diesel 2x15 cab. They would just be a little brighter. That's really my only option unless I called EV and they had some speakers built to Diesel specs just kind of lying around.

$260 per each Powerhouse speaker.

Yeah, when I wired them back in phase I got easily twice the volume with tons of "15 inch" bottom. Two 15s is better than one and I love the sound of 15s in general. I'm going to try and negotiate a deal with the guy to pay for the difference, or at least most of it. I seriously doubt he would be willing to fork over $300 for a new set of speakers.
