pretty cool, do you know which chemicals are causing the reaction?
What I heard from someone who heard from Dr. Joe Schwartz on the radio (a famous chemist in Montreal who has a spot on a radio station) that the mentos actually take the carbon dioxide molecules out of dissolution at a very high rate since the mentos have a very high surface area because their surface is actually lots of litle particles. This causes a very quick expansion of the gas. Also, the reason diet coke is used is because it is lighter than regular coke.

Now if I could just get these blasted seagulls to try some of my pop rocks, another scientific mystery to me will be solved. :D

tie some chicken to a string and fill a pocket in the chicken with pop-rockets.

make sure the streing is reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally long and then swing it round your head slowly with a bunch of gulls around.

they eat chicken+pop-rockets and there you go.

Yahoo had something about this the other day. I guess the Mentos people think it's hilarious. Coke? Well...they're speaking to their lawyers (they're still burned up over that Coke/Pop Rocks/Mikey thing from the 80's)!
