Double Bass Difference between Basses designed for Jazz and Rockabilly

Other than the paint jobs and finishes, are there any major differences? What about pickups? I was thinking about whether or not I should buy a 'dedicated' rockabilly bass if I also play New Orleans jazz.

There's rockabilly, really loud rockabilly, and earsplitting psychobilly. The great differences in stage volume between the several styles that now fit under the general term "rockabilly" may guide you to a decision. The original rockabilly style was actually very quiet and had a lot of dynamic range.

If your rockabilly style runs to the traditional quieter styles, then a Kay-like bass would do a fine job for both genres. Without knowing what the specific rockabilly requirements are, it's hard to say whether one bass would do the job for you. In spite of a few grumpy non-answers, we're here to help with advice and experience.
