Difference between Jazz and Precision necks?

My only two basses are a CIJ Jaguar and a Squier P-Bass.

I recently put them neck to neck and they are the exact same thickness. Could it be that the P-Bass neck was shaved down a little too much in the factory? I know basses have slight variations and have even heard of a P-Bass neck that is thinner than normal.

And what it the difference again? Its from 1.75in to 1.5in, P to J?

precision necks will be anywhere from 1.75" to 1.6" wide at the nut
also some precision necks will be the jazz width of 1.5" at the nut

there will be more variation between necks in their front to back thickness
and i think either neck can be thick or thin front to back...

I am no expert but I've been led to believe that P's *usually* are 1 3/4" wide at the nut- referred to as a *C* neck- but there are also 1 5/8" nut widths(*B*)as well as *A* @ 1 1/2". Jazzes, IME, are 1 1/2" although there are very slight variations. I think the Geddy Lee neck is a bit slimmer than typical Jazz width.

Generally, it was older P-basses (50s-70s? I think) had the 1 3/4" nut which then changed to 1 5/8", which is the current nut width now, except for maybe reissues of older models, and those special models that have been fitted with Jazz necks . The Jazz has always been 1 1/2" (AFAIK, that is).
