Difference between Nylon Rounds and Flats

Hey fellas.
I tried doing some searching but I really couldn't find what I wanted.
What are the differences between Rounds and flats coated/wrapped in nylon. I'm going to use them in a fret-less bass

What tone do they produce, is the feeling a little different, diff. gauges?

Are the round's wrapped in nylon a little brighter than the flats?
(I don't want the sound to be too "boomy")

hard to explain. VERY different types of strings and different materials used in both across manufacturers. i use rotosound nylons and have used labella rotosound and d'addario flats.

nylons are going to feel way gummier -- much less stiffness than any other type of string you have used in the past. Takes some getting used to and major set-up changes

soundwise, considering well-broken-in strings of both types: Nylons are boomier but mine maintained a crisp top. There are a lot of other variables but they definately lean towards a "felt and not heard" kind of thing, especially on a fretless. The top is high in the spectrum so would usually be cancelled or EQ'd out in a mix. But, there is some snap there (reference Graham Central Station "Hair") if you push it.

Flats are round, deep and full but focused and punchier in the lows/lowmids. Mine always lost the top end altogether but keep a great range that cuts through a mix and doesn't step on a lot of other sounds.
