Differences Between Pbass and Jbass

Precisions have that great growl, they're the rebel on a motorbike of the Fender bass family. The Jazz is more of a bookworm type, very articulate and non-threatening.
I've got an Aerodyne Jazz which has both a Jazz and a P pickup which works great for me. But if you want both and prefer the P neck get a Precision Aerodyne.

RRrriiiggghhht. That's how I always picture John Paul Jones, Jaco and Joe Osborn.

OTOH, Jamerson and Duck Dunn made the P sound mighty nice, too.

Me, I play a J. The 2nd bass I ever owned was a '73 J, and I have never found a bass I like better.

Can't we all just get along?

P bass has a thumpier, rockier sound, less distinct than the Jazz. Its good for bands with a thick sound. But a Jazz is clearer, and has a better sound for three-pieces etc. I far prefer a P, but some like Jazz. Go try!
