Different strings - different volumes?

Hi,

I'm pretty new to playing bass (about 1/2 year) and recently just picked up a brice hxb-405. I've been working on getting it setup (action was too high) and changed the strings to La Bella flats.

I pretty much have everything setup the way I want it, except the strings play at different volumes (the eq's are flat). The G,A,D strings play at one volume, and the E and B strings are a LOT quieter, sometimes it seems like they're almost non-existant.

What could the problem be? Is it the setup? Would changing the action help? Would changing the pickup height fix the differences? Or is it just my cheap amp (15w 6" SX amp that came with my first sx)? Strings?

I tried a search but I couldn't find anything...

Before you start to modify anything you should be shure where the problem is. I would try the bass ob another amp. Then you know for shure if the problem is on your bass or on your amp.

Flats are a lot different than rounds. They don't "ring". They have very little sustain. Of course the higher pitched strings sound louder. They do on all instruments just from the way the higher pitches travel. The lower sounds are "quieter" because of the way they too travel. They are a different timbre.
