Different volume on strings?

When I play though my amp the d and g strings have are dramatically quieter and less bassy. This isn't because of my eq settings why is this?

Usually it's pick up height - you may need to raise it up on the dg side. Otherwise it could be dead strings, the strings may be higher on that side, etc There can be lots of reasons.

Status Energy with stock pickups. It worked fine until quite recently.

Did you recently change strings? Some types, and I suppose possibly sets within types depending on sample-to-sample variance, don't have even response across the strings. For example, when I tried Dean Markely Nickel Plated Steel on my P-bass, I found the E and A sounded perfect, but the D and G were ridiculously weak. On the same bass, Blue Steels of the same gauge sound great.

Otherwise, it's usually the factors Relic mentioned IME.

it is possible that with changes in temperature/humidity, your neck relief has changed and the strings are further from the pickups. also being too close to the pickups is bad.

I've measured it with a ruler do it's not neck relief.

Most likely pickup height, and/or bridge saddle adjustment. A trip to the Setup&Repair forum should help out.

measured what? any measurements are meaningless unless you measure both before and after the problem began.

was this a sudden problem or one that could have developed slowly?

If you really don't think it is setup related, I would recommend removing the pickups and inspecting them for damage. Make sure if there is a plastic casing the wire is wrapped around, that it isn't cracked, etc.

Have you tried your bass on a different amp since the D and G strings started sounding dead? It's not a strong possibility, but the amp could be causing the issue...you might want to eliminate that possibility before you go any further.

Otherwise, raise the pickup on the D/G side and change out your strings to see if that helps.
