One of the problems with diff eq (and other calcs) is that they move very very quickly in class and the principles are a different way of thinking than you are used to. So you can get behind and miss a concept and you find yourself sitting in class not having a clue what the prof is talking about. Best to go back to the basics and make sure you have each concept down....grind through examples and ask questions. Oh, and cram....a lot.
one of the highpoints of my return to college was taking diff eqs and subsequently numerical analysis ( using numerical methods to solve or approximate the solutions of differential equations computationally). who would have known that, 20 years after my engineering degree, i would discover that yes, virginia, math IS awesome.
differential equations, and the numerical methods necessary for approximating their solutions, are (along with linear algebra) the root (pardon the pun) of computer graphics and animation.
inverse kinematics (the mechanism by which, among other things, motion capture actually works) is predicated on solving differential equations.
Is it because you have an application for the math? I enjoyed math when taught by engineering professors - I was able to solve real problems (okay, there were enough assumptions to make them solvable). In the math department, the application wasn't as strong, so less interest from me.
