Digidesign Venue and Sonar?

The big Digidesign consoles connect via ethernet. I'm not convinced that it would work. You need a host computer to run the software for the console, and a separate computer to record. When I saw The Mars Volta recently, that was their setup. It's a live sound console first, recording second.

My church uses a D-Show and records services to Protools. I believe the ethernet your seeing is the connection from the stage rack (mic's and etc) to the foh rack. The FOH rack there are assorted outputs. I know that besides the ProTools recording they have outputs to a hard drive recorder for a safety copy in case something happen to the computer.
