Digital Camera Advice

i have a sony DSC-P32 cyber-shot 3.2 megapixel digi camera,

Likewise - I went with the P52 (3.2MP, 3x Optical Zoom) - good balance between quality/price/features....I'm not really a photo geek, tho - this DSC does me just fine. My old man just picked up a P92 (5.0 MP - 3x Optical Zoom) for the same price that I paid for my P52 at Christmas.

I would have bought a Canon except for the fact that the batteries were included in the Sony and it came bundled with a camera case, extra power pack and a larger memory stick.

How big was the memory stick? Ultimately you will pay much more for memory sticks if you get over 128megs. The Canon only came with something like a 16 meg compactflash card but I bought a 256meg compactflash card for 60 bucks. Since then I've seen them as low as 40 bucks for the same card. Also, NiMH AA rechargeable batteries and chargers that the Canons run on have become so cheap that it's not even worth it to me to consider that as a factor.

What is something good under $200 other than the one Defeldus recommended.

Personally I feel that Kodak has the best options for $200 and under. For casual photography that you will be printing or getting printed out I recommend at least 3 megapixels and 3x optical zoom. Again, see Invalid Link Removed for other low-cost suggestions.

They threw in a 128MB card - probably worth like $80 retail (CDN). that was enough to sway me towards the Sony. But really, I could have either gone with the Canon A70 just as easily. Oh and I borrowed by father-in-law's Sony, so I already had all the software installed on my computer at home....

Agreed.

I got my Kodak EasyShare CX6330 for Christmas and this thing is awesome. Easy to use, quite a few features for a tiny little camera (only slightly bigger than the palm of my hand, but still large enough to have something to hold on to!), and ASTOUNDING detail for large pictures.

*Shameless plug for my new bass* :D

Here's a pic that I shot of my new bass a few days ago:

That's funny, I was the same way...I could have gone with the Sony just as easily and it was basically down to those two. The reason I went with the Canon is it was more flexible as far as the controls went and it had greater manual control capability. I'm sure I would have been happy with the Sony though...my brother and father both have one and it's a great camera. Sounds like you got a good deal.

Ty,

Up until now I was lying about us getting together some time in hopes that you would forget about it. Now that I see this bass though...hmmm... It might be worth putting up with you for a couple of hours.

Hey man--I'm up for pretty much whenever. My schedule is finally slowing down a bit, so I could make the drive to Temple almost any night of the week!

I just picked up the A210 at Meijers on sale for $170 plus you got a $50 Meijers gift certificate. It's 3.2 MP with 3x optical zoom. Still figuring it out, but seems to take decent pictures.
