Digital recorder (in MP3)

I'm looking for a not too expensive digital recorder, which will record in mp3, so my band can here how we all sound-maybe putting some songs online. Something like this http://www.bossus.com/index.asp?pg=1&tmp=157 except not just for guitar, any instrument. Looking around the £100-£150 mark.
Any ideas?

Well mini disks are good, but not mp3's....i dont know if they have an option to save as mp3's yet.

I use a iriver ihp-120, it's a 20gig ipod clone but can record direct to mp3's
I've had it for 3 years now, and use it on every jam session with a sony external omni mic it's great for quick and dirty recordings. Easy to transfer /send to friends and listen as you go.

That iriver-van it record straight from the mp3 mic into mp3 format?

yes the iriver ihp records direct to mp3 or wav files. you can set the bit rate of the mp3 as well. you need a good external mic the built in internal mic sucks

Oh, I was looking for something like that, but with an internal mic good enough. It wouldn't have to be the best recording in the world. Does anyone know any mp3 players which will record in mp3 straight from the internal mic? (Apart from the iriver ihp)

Samsung has some mp3 players with a built in mic and line in port that will record direct to mp3. It'll even record the radio. I've used the built in mic to record bluegrass jam sessions. While not audiophile quality you can clearly hear what's going on. I've tried the line in, but there was too much bleed between left and right the time I tried it. I may have had too much signal going in though.

Mine was a YP-T7XX or similar (don't have it on me). The YP-T9JQB models at least have a built in mic, but I can't confirm the existence of a line in port on this model.

Just checked out the Zoom. It looks and sounds very cool......and 2 bills less than the others I found:
Edirol (Roland) R-09, Marantz, M-Audio.

So, if I don't want to wait for the Zoom, nor do I want to spend $ 400, what's good?

Zoom H4 - $300 USD

It'll record directly to MP3 of any bitrate you want.

It's definitely the best digital recorder I've used by far.

Yes Zoom H4

Very cool little device. Makes a very, very good recording , especially using good mikes. The ones that are built on the unit sound good but the recorder shines with a couple of good condensors.
Choice between MP3 and wav at many resolutions.
Relatively inexpensive. A little cheap feeling (plastic), display is tiny. Recording quality is great. Competes with M-Audio and Edirol very favorably.

I got an edirol ro9 not too long ago. Very nice recorder. Crystal clear. Extremely easy to get the .mp3 from it to a computer.
