Digitech Bass WHammy...

... Ok, so I became the luckiest low ender in the world this weekend and stumbled upon an almost mint Bass Whammy for lets say less than $100 (yeah, I still cant believe it myself)... Anyways, Ive looked at this pedal before in passing but never thought that I would actually find one, therefore never thought of a real world application for one... I know everybody nerds over Chanceller having one, but aside from that are there any TB'ers that own one and for what/where do you use it in your set? I set a goal to work in into our set for something on our April 2nd show but I'm not sure where.... If anybody owns one of these beasts feel free to let me know what you use yours for or anything else cool I should know about this pedal...

Lead guitar sounds, "whale calls", chordal passages, harmonies, sound effects, octaver...there's a lot of possibilities in the Whammy, actually.

i got mine for cheap also!!! the one i got it from got it for even cheaper...

the bass whammy is a nice toy and effect... live its a toy!!!

Haha thanks for the heads up fuNKmaster, thats what I'm thinking as its gonna be for me too, but I'm willing to give it a shot... At worst case scenario it'll sell easy and be what I need make a good chunk of a payment of a used Stingray...

@jwr, I found it from a local seller who was a guitarist... Stay patient and maybe you'll get lucky... The other local dude I know who has one got his for free (!)

@chokeslam - It handles drops great... I have only tried it on a small combo not my SVT but if it sounds good on that then I know it'll sound like a beast on the Ampeg...

Just be careful with that thing. Its defintely cool, just try your best to place in an open passage like in intro/outro of a song. Otherwise, you may look up to the contorted faces of your fellow band members as they grimace to the "whale calls" and signal to never use it again lol

I messed around with the regular one once and was pretty unimpressed in how it tracked low notes

I can't see investing $700 in a toy that does a couple things the other whammys out there don't. I do have a suggestion though for those of you jonesing for one. I've owned the discontinued bp8 by digitech and it came out around the same time the bass whammy came out. It has the exact same settings the bass whammy does and is consistently around $100 on ebay and the like, that and it's a damn good multi with a tube pre. That being said, it's almost 3 times bigger than the bass whammy, so there's that trade off. I've seen a few of the bass whammys on ebay and the like for $700 + and wouldn't even consider that, but if I saw one for $100, I'd scoop it up.

I find the tracking on my Whammy IV to be about as good as on my Boss OC-2. The Bass Whammy has a few settings that weren't available elsewhere, which is the draw.

Or you can get the XP-100, which has ALL of the whammy and harmony modes from all of the different whammy models. The tracking is about the same as the Whammy IV. It only gets warbly from around low E and down. It can track a G on the E string fine in my experience.

really? I find the tracking a bit better than my oc-2, (though I don't really have any problems with the boss). Plus, the whammy tracks polyphonic, and the boss does not.

To my knowledge, both Newsted and Burton used an old Morley Power Wah Boost for the intro
