Digitech Whammy IV distorting when bypassed

I recently noticed some rather nasty unwanted distortion on my signal, and singled it out to be my Whammy, even though it's bypassed. The clipping point seems to be about the same as that of my recording interface, a Line 6 UX1 (I normally use an Aguilar TLC to keep the interface from clipping). There is definitely a specific clipping point; anything below comes out clean, anything above is distorted. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong, and how to fix it?

(Probably won't help, but I play an Ibanez BTB475, bridge soloed, bass and treble flat and mids boosted)
