Have you ever had a Model J in your bridge and decided to pair it up with something else in the neck? Any good combo's you would like to recommend? I'm all ears for any type of tonal qualities but aggressive mids are more my style. Thanks!

No. I'm not convinced that mixing various makes & models of pickups makes any more sense than mixing various makes & models of cabinets...which is to say, not at all...

There are several P-pickups that go together well with a Model J in the bridge position.
Especially the Artec which reads only about 8k - I really like this combination.

Some time ago i had a jazzbass with a Model J in the bridge and an Ultrajazz in the neck position. While the single pickups sounded very good, the sound of the two pups blended couldn't convince me.
To my ears, it was kind of boomy and somehow undefined.

I ask because i found a bridge model j on sale here on the classifieds. i plan on getting the set, but was just wondering if anyone ever experimented with anything else.

Interesting point of view.
All my Jazz basses have mixed pickups in them. always have.
I'll buy pickups in pairs and usually put them in as a pair first, but always find a better combination with, for instance, an NJ4 in the neck and a Model J in the bridge or whatever.
Its fun to mix them up, sometimes you'll discover a killer combination.
At any rate it certainly isn't wrong, in fact it should be encouraged. IMO
i have an ampeg410 and mesa boogie 210 and i always get compliments. as far as the amp route i'm totally not against it! as far as pickups i have a fender pbasss with two split p's - a spb3 and a vintage velvet hammer and it sounds killer. i'll probably just get the set but i'm definitely interested in seeing what other people's experiences are.
