DiMarzio Model P series\parallel question

Hi everyone. I really do like this pickup as a standalone P, and I would say the 2 basses that I own that sport the pickup are wired in series (one bass has the DP126 PJ set, the other just the Model P).

So the only criticism I have is in some circumstances it is too boomy\muddy due to it's inherent low end boost. Anyone with experience - could running the P pickup in parallel mode reduce this low end ? How would you describe the overall change in tone compared to series?

I've had a series-parallel dimarzio model P in one of my main basses. In fact it was there from factory (an 80's Maton). I much prefer the sound of this pickup in parallel mode. It is clearer, cleaner, not so strong in the mids. But you should know that its output will be lower. About 5-6dB. But still usable. With a series-parallel switch the parallel setting seems a bit weak at first, because of that volume drop and because you are switching between the two and directly comparing. But I'd say give it a shot. Perhaps you could replace one of your pots with a push-pull pot. This way you aren't drilling any holes.

I see you are from Tassie, so I guess you know the Maton JB4. Well, this has the Model P and Model J, like your's with DP126 set. Mine had the original toggle that switched both pickups from series to parallel at the same time. Well one of the first mods I did was to have the P in parallel and the J in series. And this worked really well. The outputs were a much closer match, and the brighter P was a nice contrast to the middy J.

Hey man - I read a few simialr post you were in talking about utilising Parallel P, series J and it's actually what got me to thinking...so Hi!!!

I guess I'm trying to weigh up options....I do like the tone of the Model P but would like the P a little tamer. The other option is I think I may grab a set of EMG Geezer PJs but that is a little expensive.

I was just wondering how the tone sits with tone up full, both pickups 50/50 with J in series, P in parallel played with a pick and roundwounds....I'm thinking in my head I'll like it, and I can deal with the volume drop....I have gain options on my pedal board and amp.

This one has a ser/par for the Dimarzio [clone] P pupset array. and it can be soloed due to the no-load volumes. Need to plug it in again to check to see how much low end it may lose in par-mode. Only did one session so far with this one.

i do know that it is hotter with it in the std series mode.
